Sound Therapy in Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch and surrounding areas

As a qualified counsellor, I have now trained as an Accredited Sound and Vibroacoustic Therapy Practitioner to expand my practice holistically. The science of sound captured my attention as a powerful complement to talking therapy. While talking therapy engages the cognitive and emotional processing pathways, sound and vibration bypass the narrative mind, working directly with the autonomic nervous system to shift the body out of stress and into deep relaxation, perfectly complementing traditional talk therapy.

The Science: Sound and Your Nervous System

Sound therapy engages the autonomic nervous system to release stress:

1. Entrainment & Brainwave Regulation

The brain moves through different frequency states. Busy or stressed thinking is associated with faster Beta waves. Through brainwave entrainment, steady rhythms can support a shift towards Alpha (relaxed awareness) and Theta (meditation, dreaming and reflection), creating space for emotional processing and restoration.

2. Polyvagal Theory & Parasympathetic Activation

Stress activates the sympathetic nervous system (“fight or flight”), raising heart rate and muscle tension. Continuous harmonic tones and low-frequency vibrations may stimulate the vagus nerve, supporting the parasympathetic nervous system (“rest and digest”). This can encourage steadier heart rate and blood pressure, lower stress hormones and softer muscle tension.

3. Somatic Vibroacoustics:

Because the body is largely water, vibration travels readily through tissue. Vibroacoustic sound may support gentle micro-circulation, ease localised tension and provide grounding sensory input that helps quiet an overactive mind.

How It Works

You remain fully clothed and comfortably supported on a treatment table or floor setup with blankets and bolsters. Your role is simply to receive and rest.

  1. Orientation: A brief check-in establishes comfort and a supportive intention.
  2. Immersion: Instruments build a rich sound field, with tools applied on or near key areas of the body.
  3. Integration: You rest in stillness as the sound fades before gradually re-orienting.

All mats, blankets, pillows and bolster cushions are provided but feel free to bring anything of your own for added comfort
